In the Bible, Asaph was one of the Levites King David appointed to lead worship in front of the ark of the Lord, before the Temple even existed (1 Chronicles 16:4-7). Twelve Psalms are attributed to him and his descendants, “the sons of Asaph”: Psalm 50 and Psalms 73-83. These are texts about praise, but also about justice, doubt, and trust rebuilt in God through the hardest moments. Not songs for the occasion. Worship lived with the whole person.
That’s where the name comes from. Asaf is the week of the Ohel Summer Camp, run by the Come Tralci churches, dedicated entirely to music as a path to worship. Asaf 2026 runs from August 3 to 9, at Area del Capanno in Lodi, Italy, and is open to everyone.
A retreat on worship, not a music camp
Asaf isn’t built to teach you to play better. It’s a set-apart time to go deeper on a question that concerns every believer, before it concerns any musician: what does it mean to worship God with your whole life, not just with your hands.
Service comes before performance. Playing, singing, leading a church’s worship — these are all ways of serving the body of Christ, not ways of putting yourself on display. That’s the heart the whole week is built around.
What the week looks like
- Bible study, covering topics like the Tabernacle, the life of David, the service of the Levites, and the Psalms of Asaph, to give a solid biblical foundation to everything lived out during the camp.
- Community worship, often starting in the early morning hours, to seek God’s presence together before any other activity.
- Moments of spontaneous worship, with no setlist or fixed program, leaving room for the Spirit to lead the group’s singing and prayer.
- Times of sharing, where participants can talk about what God is doing in their lives, or bring a word or testimony in front of everyone.
- Hands-on music workshops, to grow together as musicians and singers serving the church.
On top of this, an annual theme runs through the whole week. Past years have covered topics like the body as an “instrument” of worship, and the desire for a closer connection with God, drawing on the story of Queen Esther.
Why join
Whether you’re an instrumentalist, a singer, or simply someone who wants to understand more about what it means to worship, Asaf is meant to be lived together: through Scripture, spontaneous worship, testimony, and shared service. You don’t need to be an experienced musician to take part. You just need to want to seek God.
